Portland, and the Muskie School at USM in particular, will play host to the third-ever New England Food Summit on June 13 and 14. Last year a delegation from Maine attended the summit in Burlington and, prior to that, in Portsmouth for the 2011 Summit.
Delegates from all six New England states will be convening to further the work of sharing information and strategy ideas, collaborating with and learning from one another and, most of all, continuing to explore how New England might strengthen its regional food system and food-based economy into the future.

Our friends in Vermont, who have been working on the Vermont Farm-to-Plate Plan and Network for several years now, have just released the first peer-reviewed article on how they might actually measure success toward their food system goals. Vermont’s plan contains a goal of “doubling local food consumption in ten years.”
