Healthy Maine Environment

Healthy Maine Environment CURRENT GOAL
Maine’s food system relies upon and contributes to a healthy and resilient environment.

The Healthy Maine Environment group will begin in February 2017 and will begin to define priority actions for the intersection between food production and the environment relating to the Framework document, and actions that support the MFS network values. FMI, contact us here.

Current Indicators (Levers):

▪ There is recognition that food production is interconnected with the entire ecosystem, and that the food production practices Maine follows should aim to reduce soil erosion and carbon pollution, and improve soil health and water quality.

▪ Maine’s farmers and fishermen have access to the tools, technology and financial resources needed to support “best management practices” and “risk management strategies” that are designed to protect or improve the environment.
