Maine and New England

Food for Thought

Agriculture, fisheries, and food plans aren’t new in Maine or the country.  The Maine Food Strategy seeks to learn from past planning efforts in our state and others.

The Maine Food Strategy is one of several statewide food systems planning initiatives underway in New England.  Individuals involved in all of these efforts connect regularly through a State Communities of Practice group convened by the Vermont Sustainable Jobs Fund and Vermont Farm to Plate.

Massachusetts Food Council

The New Hampshire Food Alliance

Rhode Island Food Council

Vermont Farm to Plate

In addition to these state initiatives, an organization called Food Solutions New England (FSNE) is a regional, collaborative network organized around a single goal: to transform the New England food system into a resilient driver of racial equity and food justice, health, sustainable farming and fishing, and thriving communities. Food Solutions New England has coordinated additional discussions at the regional level through its New England Food Vision: 2060.
